how long is the golden gate bridge?

The golden gate bridge may be one of the most iconic structures in the United States, but how long is it? The impressive span famously spans the San Franscisco Bay linking San Francisco and Marin County, California. It's clear to see just how incredible it is, and its proximity to some of California's most spectacular views makes it an unmissable stop on any trip in the Bay Area. But exactly how long is this renowned bridge?

The Golden Gate Bridge spans an incredible length of 8,981ft (2,737m). This length was key to make sure that the construction project did not take too much time and resources to complete. Despite its extended distance, it only required four years (1933-1937) for engineers to build this architectural marvel. This lengthy span creates a true feat of engineering and made it one of the longest suspension bridges in existence at that time — It still holds a top-ten ranking today with some of the other world's longest bridges being constructed since then.

One noteworthy feature about this bridge is that both ends curving elegantly out into San Francisco Bay make up 1/3rd of its total length — These endpoints are known as anchorage points. The iconic central supports — that intermediate towers between these anchorage points — too have an important role: they account for more than half of the total length! The single highest tower is 746 ft (227m) tall!
